Fire and Frost by Nala Robidou
Chapter 1
There was a girl named Elara. She was an orphan with two older brothers, Merode and Shoto. Elara had ice and fire powers. Shoto had ice powers and Merode had fire powers. The village feared them. They lived in an alleyway by the orphanage because the orphanage didn't feel safe with them there. Then one rainy night the queen approached them and told them that they are descendants of elemental guardians and that she could train and protect them. So now they have a family.
One day after three weeks of being there while they were training, Elara’s power surged out of control and hit Merode. He was slammed into the stone wall behind him. The queen rushed over and healed Merode. After seeing her brother slammed, healed, and coming toward her, Elara ran silently crying up the marble stairs and across stone floors to her room. She locked her door .Merode tried to talk to her, but she just told him to go away.
One day after three years Elara's door was unlocked. Merode and Shoto felt a weird presence and went to check on Elara, and when they opened the door a vampire was just leaving. They ran to check on Elara and kneeled down next to her. She was cold and pale, barely breathing. They called the queen and she rushed to Elara's side. She used the same magic she used to heal Merode as her heart had stopped.
She woke up coughing up blood and her eyes were different. She looked around, then collapsed in the queen's arms. When she woke again Merode rushed to her side. She tried to talk but bit her tongue and she winced. Merode looked at her and gasped. “What?” Elara asked, frightened. “Y y your teeth,” Merode said, backing away. The queen came in and told Elara that she was turning into a vampire.
Chapter 2
Elara couldn't believe it. She was turning into a vampire. She didn't know what to do, stay and possibly hurt her family or run but never see them again. She chose to run. She got up and jumped off the balcony and ran far, far away to the kingdom of vampires’ nightfall. Her family screamed her name but she didn't stop, she just ran.
When she got to the kingdom, guards surrounded her and the queen and her son approached. The queen recognized her and told her the truth. “Elara, you and my son Eli are twins. You didn’t show any signs of being a vampire. You showed signs of being an elemental which makes sense because your father is the king of elements. Now the reason we sent you to the kingdom we did is because the elemental kingdom was dying.”
Elara and Eli were shocked for a moment. Then they understood they were almost identical. They walked away and started talking about their past. Elara told Eli about Merode and Shoto and he was shocked. “Elara, your brothers are them? Oh crap”
“Eli what's going on?” Elara asks, scared. Eli runs to the throne room and there Merode and Shoto are forced to kneel on the ground. Elara runs up to them and tells the guards to release them. After hugging her brothers she realized she couldn't be part of both worlds. So she did the thing she didn’t want to do. She looked at her family and, clearly upset, she ran. Her brothers tried to chase her, but she was too fast.
Chapter 3
Elara ran for miles. She didn't stop until she found a small village. She stopped to take a breath. The village was full of supernatural creatures like her wolf's elemental griffons but no vampires. When the villagers saw her they bowed. Then Elara saw a statue of a vampire like her. One of the villagers brought a crown. That's when Elara realized that this village worshiped vampires so she became their queen.
Her brothers searched and searched for five years, but they couldn't find their sister. Then one day while searching a nearby village they saw her - the queen. Elara saw them and memories flooded back too fast. She went inside and went to her room. Her brothers followed. "Elara it’s us, Merode, Shoto and Eli. We're here to take you home, little sis,” Merode says. “Oh Merode, I am home. This is where I belong, where I can be me without being afraid. Now leave. I don't want you to get hurt,” Elara replies. Her brothers stay.
Then suddenly a demon comes and the palace is different - two sides, light and dark. Elara and her brothers are on the light side. The demon is on the dark side. Then the demon starts singing, “We’re not in love/ We share no stories/ Don't be afraid/ The shadows know me/ Let’s leave this world behind. ”Then Elara joins in, “Take me through the night fall/ Into the darkside/ We don't need the light/ We’ll live on the darkside/ I see it, let’s feel it/ While we're still young and fearless/ Let go of the light/ Fall into the darkside.”* They finish and Elara's eyes flash black instead of her normal crimson.
